KODAWARI x SHIBUYA UNDERGROUND
New Japanese bar to host tasting evening with local Japanese foodies Kodawari, not to be missed for any lovers of Japan!
The award winning team behind The Pineapple Club have announced that they will be launching their first event in the early anticipated build up to the opening of Shibuya Underground a cocktail and sake specialist bar in the form of a food and drinks pairing evening with Birmingham based Kodawari!
Samuel Boulton the founder of The Pineapple Club has had a love for Japan for many years, after spending some time there int 2018 Boulton has had his eyes set on a Japanese Sake bar for some time.
Boulton said “I’ve really wanted to bring a taste of japan (in an true authentic way for a long time, it’s taken a long time to find the right spot and develop the idea enough to get it ready. Covid has slowed down the opening with our imports from Japan taking longer to arrive than we’d have hoped (such as the 12 ceremonial Sake barrels which should be arriving soon!) but I!m really excited for early 2022 when we can finally show Birmingham what we!ve created”.
Shibuya Underground will have a tasting style drinks menu (with a choice of Sake or Japanese Cocktails) with 6 course of drinks on each menu. The bar will also be hosting a “Sake School” lead by Samuel Boulton who is their in house sake expert.
In the build up to the event Shibuya Underground has teamed up with Birmingham foodies Kodawari lead by founder James Brewster. Boulton and Brewster are two peas of the same pod, both has a huge love for Japanese culture and want to bring that to Birmingham.
The Event will feature a 5 course menu, with dishes such as Miso garlic butter basted langoustines, Shibuya Shoyu Ramen and Japanese baked cheesecake with miso caramel apples. Each paired to a Sake or Japanese cocktail.
Brewster Says “Shibuya (in Japan) has a fond place in my heart, it left a long lasting impression – from the hidden speak easy bars, incredible Izakayas, rare whiskey shops, the library bar above Shibuya Crossing and of course the Hachikō Memorial at the tube station”.
We’ve longed for the same experience Shibuya offered here in the UK and were truly honoured and excited when The Pineapple Club reached out to us to help with the launch of their eagerly anticipated Shibuya Underground bar.
Join us for an evening of exquisite Japanese food and drink – together with their sake sommelier Samuel Boulton we’ll take you on a culinary adventure of our travels around Tokyo, reliving our favourite tastes, smells, sights and sounds.’
