Experience Japanese arts and culture in the Arcade, to celebrate the arrival of Spring

Celebrate the arrival of the cherry blossoms with a day of Japanese culture in the Arcade! There will be a variety of performances, demonstrations and hands-on activities for you to enjoy, showcasing a mix of modern and traditional Japanese arts.

Japan Day is Saturday, 25th March 11am-4pm, in various units throughout the Arcade.

FREE ENTERTAINMENT THROUGHOUT THE DAY

TENGU TAIKO DRUMMERS

Have a go at playing the mighty Taiko drums, with hands-on workshops throughout the day (further details and workshop times to be announced).

MION

Japanese singer-songwriter pop idol MION will give several performances during the afternoon as well as signing CDs and posing for photos with fans.

IVIX

Local dance troupe IVIX will be performing their moves to Japanese pop music. Not to be missed!

ACTIVITIES

Watch a demonstration of the gentle art of Japanese silk embroidery. Have your name written by a Japanese master calligrapher (£5, cash only). Try on a genuine wedding kimono and learn how to pose for the best photo! Learn to fold your own origami crane, for peace and a long life

There will also be a special pop-up market in the Arcade where you can shop for vintage kimono, Japanese art prints, crafts and kawaii goods.

EAT

Some of the restaurants in the Arcade will be serving specially-themed dishes, so make sure you arrive early to catch these.
